Having decided to accept the implied challenge, this paper has been written in the form of a review of the evidence, both for and against the proposition, under three main headings: The evidence that a uterine luteolysin exists. The evidence that PGF2\g=a\is 'a ' uterine luteolysin. The evidence that PGF2\g=a\is 'the ' uterine luteolysin: \p=m-\the only PG in the uterus and uterine vein blood is PGF2\g=a\. \p=m-\the uterine secretion of PGF2\g=a\is quantitatively sufficient to account for luteolysis. \g=a\no satisfactory alternative explanation for luteolysis exists
