The results of X-ray analyses can be of importance for the interpretation of art historical objects. Here different pieces of the feretories of the archbishop Anno and the three Magi were analyzed in occasion of the restoration in Cologne. From the X-ray analyses in combination with art historical observations (interpretations) of the material first qualitative and quantitative results of copper, brass and contamination with secondary phases in the samples were obtained, which partly helped to deduce processing, date of origin and place of origin of the material.
