Summary- Meloidogyne spp. are serious pests of crops worldwide. Several laboratories have used rDNA to investigate their phylogenetic relationships and to develop diagnostic tests for these species, yet these genes are known to be unusually variable in M. arenaria. We have analyzed three rDNA clones from M. arenaria, two of which conta in large deletions. Based on these and other available M. arenaria rDNA sequences, the sizes of the M. arenaria 18S and 28S rRNAs are estimated at 1788 and 3645 bases, respectively.
