An elastoplastic solution for the plane stress problem of an interface crack with contact zones is presented. The problem of a crack lying along the interface of an elastoplastic medium and a rigid substrate is analyzed in detail. Any contact between the crack surface and the substrate isassumed to be frictionless. The J2 deformation theory with power-law hardening is used to describe the constitutive behavior of the deformable medium and a two-term elastoplastic asymptotic solution is developed. Large scale yielding finite element solutions for a Griffith interface crack with contact zones are also presented. The numerical solutions are used to verify the elastoplastic solutions developed.
