The purpose of this study is to explore the feasibility and merits of using handheld computers (PDA’s) in the classroom. This study carefully examines the findings of individual teachers and groups of teachers involved in research studies in various parts of the United States and England. Benefits and barriers to successful implementation of a handheld program are described, as well as, current classroom uses, specific strategies for starting a handheld program, and predictions for the future. Results indicate that there are compelling benefits to using handhelds in the classroom.
