Abstract The deployment of multimedia services in wireless cellular networks calls for network resource management strategies for providing Quality-of-Service (QoS) support to mobile users. An important issue in wireless QoS provisioning is the prevention of handoff drops. We develop a cell-based call admission control (CAC) and bandwidth reservation scheme that aims at minimizing the handoff dropping probability. Our scheme reduces complexity by using simple cell-wide information in neighboring cells. We evaluate the performance of our scheme through simulation under various load levels and user mobility conditions. Our results show that, when compared with a number of existing bandwidth reservation schemes as well as with no reservation s...
