Broadband wireless access networks will be a vital compo-nent in IP-based fourth-generation (4G) wireless commu-nications systems as part of convergent and pervasive net-working architecture. IEEE 802.16 Mobile WiMAX is cur-rently one of the most active standards for broadband wire-less access. There are various challenges for the integra-tion of WiMAX and next-generation broadband networks such as diverse operational environment, increasingly strin-gent QoS support, power/coverage limitations and capacity boundaries.
