Abstract: An adaptive time-frequency distribution is developed to represent an audio signal in a more useful manner. The intended use of the adaptive time-frequency distribution is to aid digital signal processing systems in identifying specific components present in a signal. This distribution has applications to many facets of digital audio signal processing, including lossy audio compression and signal separation. As an example, the specific application of removing sound sources from two channel audio recordings is investigated. ii
