3 Credit; letter grade OBJECTIVES

This course considers economic factors and solutions available to local and international communities. It explores two proven strategies which discover, assess, strategize and mobilize community assets in order to foster holistic community results. Consideration will also be given to mitigating philosophical, economic, religious, social and industrial issues within the context of communities. This course is appropriate for anyone involved or interested in community and economic development. By the end of this semester, those who are applying themselves will: 1. Be able to explain the various components in economic and community development, both their connections and processes in moving towards health. 2. Be familiar with the growth, size, and economic performance of developing countries. 3. Understand the basic components of an economic development plan. 4. Learn the importance of economic assessments and the various types of assessments that can be used to better define the economic situation. 5. Understand relevant economic philosophies that come to bear on economic improvement including: social entrepreneurism, social values and profit motive. 6. Craft an accurate set of goals based on an economic assessment and cast a vision for what the community can become
