It is revealed that the orbital angular momentum is conserved during the spontaneous parametric down-conversion of a higher-order Bessel beam propagating in a cubic nonlinear medium. This is the result of transverse selection of the sponta-neously arising optical elds in an optical parametric generator pumped by Bessel beam, due to transverse phase matching of interacting conical waves
