Atypical brainstem encephalitis caused by herpes simplex virus 2

Background: Herpes simplex encephalitis is one of the most common and serious sporadic encephalitides of im-munocompetent adults. Herpes simplex virus 2 (HSV-2) infections of the central nervous system usually mani-fest as subacute encephalitis, recurrent meningitis, my-elitis, and forms resembling psychiatric syndromes.
