An extension of the Explicit Congestion Notification (ECN) technique in TCP is presented. The Extended ECN (EECN) mechanism exploits recent ECN information to determine whether packet losses are due to congestion or bad wireless link conditions. EECN TCP is compared against other TCP implementations using Network Simulator 2 (NS-2) and the results show a significant improvement on TCP performance.
