List as many as you can. 24 upper division psychology students were either taught fundamental elements of APA style or forced to watch reruns of Three's Company and their subjective stress levels were measured. Subjects were administered the state portion of the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (Spielberger, et al. 1983) both before and after instruction and control conditions to measure stress response. State anxiety increased significantly from pre-test to post-test, with male subjects showing the greatest increase in anxiety level. No change in anxiety level was observed in the control group. Consistent with other studies on learning and stress, this study supported the theory that the learning of large amounts of new information is related to increased anxiety in college students
