Background: Epigenetic control of gene expression profiles is a ubiquitous mechanism during cell differentia-tion, organogenesis and chronic inflammatory reactions. Recent studies have shown that allergen exposure during very early pregnancy increases bronchial hypersensitivity in offspring in a murine model of bronchial asthma.
