Traditionally, ergonomics input into design has focused on the physical and cognitive effort placed on the user, and often occurs late in the design process. However, ‘design for all ’ strategies must not only attempt to include a greater percentage of a population, but also take an inclusive view of the individual by attempting to understand their emotional and ‘pleasure ’ needs as well. Few of the methods that have been developed to investigate user pleasure are available to the designer at an early stage in the design process, or in a suitable format for the way in which they work.
