The purpose of this paper is to develop a general method for designation and exploration of alterations in spatial data. This will be carried out in a methodological and conceptual con-text, guided by the possibilities that lie inherent in the application of spatial modelling and generalization techniques. The application of these rather unfamiliar techniques applied to digital cadastral maps offers promising opportunities. 1
