The purpose of this study was to determine environmental health risks in and around the home for peri-urban communities of Ciudad Juárez. A quantitative analysis of the household environment was done using a questionnaire based on proven instruments. The questionnaire included topics such as: indoor air quality (such as environmental tobacco smoke), pesticides, household chemicals, home construction, sanitation facilities, water storage and treatment, solid waste management, methods of heating the home, and emergency preparedness. Qualitative data was also collected through community-based focus groups to better assess the current attitudes and perceptions of the residents regarding environmental health risks.
