1 URBAN FREIGHT TRANSPORTATION ANALYSIS IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES: CASE STUDY IN MEDAN, INDONESIA

Abstract: This study is involved with the collection of data on urban freight transportation in developing cities and the analysis of urban policies with a freight traffic flow model. As a case study, the transportation policy in Medan, Indonesia, is investigated. In this study, we interviewed local stakeholders, observed the traffic flows at major roads approaching the central business district, and surveyed local firms to collect the freight transportation data. We calibrated the freight traffic flow simulation model with the collected data. Then, two land-use scenarios were discussed for the area where the airport is located while considering its relocation in future. The analysis results indicate that traffic volume and air pollution will increase if no countermeasure is implemented against a commercial development scenario
