Genetic linkage maps of common buckwheat (F. esculentum) and F. homotropicum were constructed by AFLP markers segregating in an F2 population of the interspecific cross F. esculentum x F homotropicum. Of 672 bands generated by twenty AFLP primer combinations, 465 bands (69%) were segregated in the F2 population. The map of F. esculentum comprised eight linkage groups containing 224 markers and had a length of 508.3 cM. The map of F homotropicum consisted of eight linkage groups with 214 markers covering 548.9 cM. One to one correspondence of the esculentum linkage groups to the homotropicum linkage groups was confirmed
