In this paper we demonstrate rigorously that electric power supply chain network equi-librium problems can be reformulated and solved as transportation network equilibrium problems. This connection was originally hypothesized in the classic book of Beckmann, McGuire, and Winsten (1956) in a chapter dedicated to “some unsolved problems. ” We con-sider two distinct electric power supply chain network models with known demand functions and with known demand market price functions, respectively, and prove that the variational 1 inequality formulations of the governing equilibrium conditions coincide with the correspond-ing variational inequalities of transportation network equilibrium problems over appropri-ately constructed supernetworks.
