Abstract: This paper introduces the republic of Kenya, gives a brief of overview of the energy sector and generation mix. The paper then discusses the supply-demand pattern and energy sector reforms. Emerging issues in the energy sector reforms, status and the future role of renewable energy are presented. The paper concludes that the unfolding scenario impetuses the need to research on energy planning with respect to the Kenyan context
