Types of variable structure decision making organizations are defined and triggers of adaptation are discussed. An approach to determining quasi-static organizational forms is described; in this approach a set of fixed structure organizational forms are used. Then, an algorithm for determining incrementally adapting organizations is outlined. This includes the representation of the adaptive structures, the set of rules that govern the adaptation, and the determination of the feasible paths through which a given structure can be transformed to another one. The procedure establishes requirements for the underlying command, control, and communications system. 1
