The concept of an ‘industry-led ’ system within the Australian VET context is not new. Indeed the Australian vocational education and training system was originally initiated by governments as a result of intense industry lobbying at the turn of the last century. Industry at that time led the call for governments to address critical skill shortages in the emerging Australian economy arguing that the school system was inadequate in terms of meeting the skill needs of industry.
