In positron emission tomography (PET) and single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), tracers labeled with radioactive isotopes are used to measure protein mole-cules (e.g., receptors, transporters, and enzymes). A major advantage of these two radiotracer techniques is extraordi-narily high sensitivity ( 109 to 1012 M), many orders of magnitude greater than the sensitivities available with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) ( 104 M) or mag-netic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) ( 103 to 105 M).
