Inherited thrombophilia is a genetically deter-mined tendency to venous thrombosis that de-velops in young patients (younger than 45 years) and tends to be recurrent (1). Factor V Leiden (2), antithrombin III (3), protein C (4) and S de-ficiencies (5), and dysfibrinogenenia (6) are now well-established causes of inherited throm-bophilia. Prothrombin gene mutation has subse-quently been added to the list (7). This G-A mu-tation of the prothrombin gene has a high fre-quency in known thrombophilics belonging to Southern Europe (8). The prothrombin gene is located on chromosome 11. It is 19 kb long and has 14 exons. A mutation in the 3’-untranslated region of the prothrombin gen
