The reknowned Austrian economist and social thinker Friedrich Augustus von Hayek wrote, “The ‘social goal’, or ‘common purpose ’ for which society is to be organized is usually vaguely described as the ‘common good’, the ‘general welfare ’ or the ‘general interest’.
