wells were located primarily in the west-central and southwestern di-visions; these divisions also re-ceived above-normal precipitation in 1994 (fig. 2)—the fifth consecu-tive year with above-normal pre-cipitation. The high water levels re-corded in 1993 had only a relatively short duration because 1994 was an average year for precipitation: 31.2 in. (98 % of normal precipitation; Knox, 1995). Although most of Wis-consin received near-normal pre-cipitation, parts of the north-cen-tral, east-central, and southeastern divisions were dry, receiving less than 85 percent of normal precipita-tion (fig. 2).
