We investigated the structure of magnetic 4eld lines in a tokamak with reversed magnetic shear and non-symmetric perturbations by means of analytically derived area-preserving non-twist Poincar7e maps. The maps are used to study magnetic island dimerization and the formation of a transport barrier in the chaotic layer of 4eld lines
