Abstract: Automated shape-measuring arrays of micro-machined sensors based on micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) technology are capable of determination of deformation components with sub-centimetre accuracy over several hundred metres. The fusion of MEMS sensors with automated geodetic monitoring systems supplies the information needed for the determination of the three-dimensional displacement and strain fields and rigid body movements of the deformable object. All of these systems can take advantage of wireless communication methods integrated with internet delivery.
