This report is an attempt at a comparative evaluation of different sorts of drought mitigation interventions in the pastoral livestock sector, based primarily on interventions that were attempted in Northern Kenya during the drought of 1999-2001. The interventions concerned had already been evaluated by Aklilu and Wekesa (2001) and the authors are indebted to their work. Our original intention was not only to complement their analysis with more in-depth participatory evaluations (see Stockwatch 2002a and b), but also a more formal cost-benefit analysis.
