The present paper summarizes the literature regarding statistical significance testing with an emphasis on (a) the post-1994 literature in various disciplines, (b) alternatives to statistical significance testing, and (c) literature exploring why researchers have demonstrably failed to be influenced by the 1994 APA publication manual’s “encouragement ” (p. 18) to report effect sizes.
