Virtual organizations are networked organizations that bind together teams of people that meet and work together through the use of information technology. Such organizations may bring together hundred or perhaps thousands of separate organizational entities. Virtual organizations rely on and traffic in shared information so that the many entities they manage may coordinate their activities effectively and efficiently. Virtual enterprises supported by such organizations have the benefit of the shared expertise and resources of all the contributing members. In this paper, we discuss a prototype knowledge based system to advise companies considering the creation of or membership in a virtual organization. 1
