In this paper we report on efforts to create a virtual environment authoring tool for novices. In particular we set out to eliminate separate design and execute behaviors from these tools. We present two alternative prototypes for achieving this and report on the results of a usability experiments comparing each environment. Keywords- Virtual reality authoring, modes, programming environments. 1
