CREATION OF INTERNAL ELECTRICITY MARKET

Nowadays European Union has two big tasks about energy supply: discharging obligations accepted in Kyoto and reducing import. The Community imports fifty percent of its energy sources from foreign countries. If the EU depends on other countries, it couldn’t be a world-leading economy. In 2007 the European Commission and the European Council have published several important documents on energy questions. All documents urge stronger European Energy policy as an action for energy supply’s sustainability, safety and competitiveness. The main element of European energy policy is the creation of internal gas and electricity markets. From 1st of July 2007 all consumers can choose their electricity and gas services free. It sounds very simple, but it is not so simple legislative task for member states. Common market for gas and electricity promotes the use of renewable energy sources, increases the safety of gas and electricity supply and competitiveness of the European Community. The directive of 2003/54/EC determines the main elements of competition in electricity markets and the legal tasks of member states and undertaking. In my presentation I’m going to examine special instruments of community law to create an internal electricity market. I
