Despite the vast amount of words written on project management and the volume of project work managed by project-based organizations, organizations fail to learn from their success and failures and transform them into improved project and organizational performances. In addition, projects are becoming increasingly complex and constrained. Hence, it is no longer sufficient for project-based organizations to rely on mainstream views of project management. Researchers and practitioners need to move beyond this and embrace a more holistic view of managing projects: not just by applying emerging theories such as program and portfolio management but also by developing more robust learning practices that can enable organizations and their members ...
