The UW-Madison CIMSS is producing simulation datasets as a part of the risk reduction effort in the NOAA GOES-R program. One of the potential baseline sounder designs for the GOES-R Hyperspectral Environmental Suite (HES) is a geostationary imaging Fourier transform spectrometer. This paper describes a simulation based on the specifications of the existing NASA GIFTS instrument, which is currently undergoing thermal vacuum testing. The initial step of the preparation uses a Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model simulation covering most of the North and South American continents to provide internally consistent atmospheric profiles over a potential geostationary imaging area.
