Dynamic recrystallization is an important process involved in the grain size reduction found during deformation of natural rocks. There are two recrystallization mechanisms that alter the grain size of materials recognized: rotation and migration recrystallization. With rotational recrystallization new high angle boundaries are formed from subgrain boundaries, by progressive misorientation of subgrains or by subgrain boundary migration and coalescence and development of new grains in areas of high lattice curvature. With migrational recrystallization existing boundaries migrate and a reworked microstructure develops because of grain dissection, grain coalescence and bulging.
