The Enhancing Series Case Studies: Student Centred Learning A Comparison of e-Portfolio Used Across Two Different Iterations of an Employability Skills Module

This study is a critical comparison of the use of e-Portfolio for teaching and reflective student-centred assessment across two iterations of the same module. The first, LI1011 Employability Skills, is a traditional module taught in a lecture theatre, but requiring students to use e-Portfolio to submit a reflective personal development planning portfolio. The second, FDa LI1015 Employability Skills for Travel Operations Management, is delivered online for a specific course with mature learners, so whilst assessment is the same in both iterations, in the latter, e-Portfolio is also used as a teaching mechanism. Both modules have been designed to enable the student to assess and develop a range of professional and personal skills to promote future personal and career development. The modules give consideration to research skills, report and essay writing, critical thinking and group work. The module objectives include: an ability to take responsibility for learning and personal development; evaluate progress and achievement of personal development and specify targets; development of a range of interpersonal and transferable skills; and self managed learning in a professional context
