Considering that energy consumption in hotels, depending on energy system efficiency is between 250 – 550 kWh/m2 per year, tourism accommodation sector is undoubtedly responsible for a large ratio of CO2 emissions. Although approximately half of that amount is utilized by HVAC systems that provide thermal comfort for guests, utilization of energy efficiency technologies and renewable energy sources is not even approaching the satisfactory level.
