For controlled scientific evaluation of psy-chotherapy certain important questions re-quire consideration. Can research techniques be incorporated into psychotherapy without nullifying the fundamental therapeutic matrix or vitiating the effectiveness of the therapy? And if so, what are their influences on the psychotherapeutic process, or, put in another way, how do the patient and therapist func-tion in such an experimental setting?
