The suitability of animation to portray change in geo-spatial data is not taken for granted by everyone. Some fundamental research is required to provide clarification. Current research attempts to provide that clarity. The objective is to determine which visualization method (focusing on animation) is best suited for which particular task. Results of this research will provide cartographers and geo-scientists with an outline on when to use animations. This paper serves as a discussion document to initiate the research. 1
