This paper presents a model for describing visualisation by con-sidering individual parts of an instance and relating them to each other. The resulting part-relationship structure forms a mental graph that can be used to navigate throughout the visualisation as a whole. This model is effective for exploring contemporary, complex visualisation i stances which are difficult to analyse using traditional mechanisms
