There is now a large body of published research that shows which approaches to physics teaching are most suc-cessful. In particular, the learning that takes place with stu-dent-student interaction has been shown to be superior to that from a traditional lecture approach, even for instructors who are recognized as being excel-lent lecturers. This paper reviews several peer-learning approaches, with a full discussion on the use of Peer Instruction for large classes in a "lecture " hall. It includes a survey of interactive teaching in Canadian uni-versities today
