The benefits of retro-commissioning (“RCx”) are documented through numerous case studies. Improved building operating efficiency, comfort, and safety are all outcomes of a well-implemented RCx program. However, the benefits and costs are difficult to measure in advance of investment decisions. In addition, the long-term savings associated with RCx requires continuous engagement and oversight of operations and maintenance practices. The risk associated with measurement of savings, estimating cost for improvement, and longevity of savings is a major structural impediment to financing.
