Hyperandrogenia and lipid metabolism

The aim of our study was to evaluate the influence of hyperandrogenia on lipid metabolism. Observational cross-sectional study was carried out. 86 women, with clinical signes of and rogenization, selected by randomization, aged before 30 years, were investigated. 14 healthy same aged volunteer without androgenization and with normal body weight served as a control. Clinical, ultrasound, hormonal investigations were carried out. The markers of lipid metabolism – TC, TG, HDL, LDL, VLDL, index AT – were detected as well. According to our results, DHEA-S, androgen of adrenal origin, has antiatherogenic effect, influences positively on lipid metabolism – decreases the levels of TC, TG, LDL, VLDL, clinically manifested by poor development of fat tissue and indicates on low probability of development of metabolic disturbances. Testosterone, one of the powerful androgen, has atherogenic effect, influences negatively on lipid metabolism – increases the levels of TC, LDL, index At and clinically manifested by excessive body weight, visceral obesity and indicates on high probability of development of metabolic disturbances. DHEA-S is antagonist of FT towards lipid parameters, atherogenity of FT are balanced by antiatherogenity of DHEA-S in cases of hypersecretion of both hormones
