In this paper, a mobile mapping application called JMMA (J2ME-Based Mobile Mapping Application) is presented to show that geographical information and mapping applications can be effectively delivered over J2ME-enabled mobile phones that have got limited capabilities. JMMA is a client/server network application runs on a user’s mobile phone and connects to an Internet enabled database server machine thru a wireless connection. The application software, which persists on the client, was developed using the Sun’s J2ME Mobile Information Device Profile (MIDP).
