Evolutionary Games and Social Norms Evolutionary Game Theory has lately developed important models of so-cial norms and conventions. This paper aims at exposing this literature and some of its drawbacks. In particular, it is shown that such approaches to in-stitutional forms, grounded on the sole notion of individual utility, are limited by the absence in the analysis of normative judgements.We then highlight the importance of sanctions and collective beliefs in the emergence of social norms.
