This paper presents a nonintrusive residential appliance load monitoring system, which determines the energy consumption of individual appliances in a residential electric load. The system is based on an analysis of the total power dissipated within the total load (as measured from the entrance of the main power supply to the building) and consists of two parts: (1) monitoring equipment and (2) disaggregating software. The monitoring equipment collects data regarding the activity of appliances over a period of time. The software disaggregates the collected data into the load profiles of individual appliances over the monitoring period
