Because of their disordered atomic structure, amorphous metals (termed metallic glasses) have fundamentally differentdeformation mechanisms compared with polycrystalline metals.These different mechanisms give metallic glasses high strength, but the extent to which they affect other macroscopic deformation properties is uncertain.
