Institutional analysis is one of the most relevant research programs in the economics of fisheries, and it improves our knowledge on the relationships between the institutional framework and the fishing sector. This paper analyses the fishing sector of Galicia (Spain), one of the most important fishing regions in the European Union, from a new institutional economics approach. The paper studies several topics that characterize the relationship between the institutional rules and the governance of the Galician fishing resources. In this sense, new evidence for the comparative institutional analysis of the management of fishing resources is generated via the study of the recent Galician experience
